Nasai reported it in Al-Kubra (8292), and Abdul-Razzaq (19913) - and Ahmad by his route (12651) - and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (7280), all of them through various chains from Qatada, from Anas, who said, and then he narrated it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Tirmidhi reported it (3909) through another route from Anas, adding in it, "and for the women of the Ansar." In its chain is Ata bin Saaib, who suffered confusion in his memory in later life, and the narrator from him, Jafar bin Ziyad Ahmar, it is not known when he heard from him. For this reason Tirmidhi said, hasan gharib by this route.A story has come with this hadith, namely that the irrigation buckets became burdensome for the Ansar, so they came to the Prophet ﷺ wanting him to pray for them or to have a river dug for them. The Prophet ﷺ was informed of this and said, "They will not ask me for anything today without being given it." The Ansar were told of this, and when they heard what the Prophet ﷺ had said, they said, "Pray to Allah for us for forgiveness." So he said, "O Allah, forgive the Ansar..." and so on in the hadith. Ahmad reported it (1241, 13226, 13268) through various chains from Anas, adding in one of the routes, "and for the children of the Ansar, and the freedmen of the Ansar."
