The Prophet ﷺ once slept near me, then woke up smiling. I asked, "What has made you laugh?"He replied, "Some people of my nation were shown to me, riding upon this green sea like kings upon thrones."She said, "Pray to Allah that He make me one of them."So he prayed for her. Then he slept a second time and did the same. She spoke as she had before, and he answered her as he had before. She said, "Pray to Allah that He make me one of them."He said, "You are among the first ones."She set out with her husband Ubada bin Samit on a military expedition, the first time the Muslims went to sea, under Muawiya. When they returned from their expedition and stopped in Sham, a riding animal was brought near for her to mount. It threw her, and she died.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Military Expeditions (2799, 2800), and Muslim in the Book of Leadership (161:1912), both through the route of Yahya bin Saeed, from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Habban, from Anas bin Malik, from his maternal aunt Umm Haram bint Malhan, and he related it. Abu Dawud said following the hadith (2491), "The daughter of Malhan died in Cyprus."On this subject there is also a similar narration, in brief, from Ibn Abbas. Ahmad narrated it (2722), and Abu Yaala (2461), both through the route of Muhammad bin Thabit Abdi, from Jabala bin Atiya, from Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Harith, from Ibn Abbas, and he related it. Muhammad bin Thabit Abdi is a disputed narrator, and most scholars judge him daif. His statement, "in the house of one of his wives," is an error, and the correct version is "in the house of Umm Haram bint Malhan."
