Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to Quba, he would visit Umm Haram bint Milhan, who would feed him. Umm Haram was married to Ubada bin Samit. One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to her and she fed him, then sat picking lice from his hair. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dozed off, then awoke laughing. She said, "I asked, 'What makes you laugh, Messenger of Allah?'"He replied, "People of my nation were shown to me setting out as warriors in the cause of Allah, riding the sea like kings upon thrones," or, "like kings upon thrones," as he had said the first time. She said, "I asked, 'Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He make me one of them.'"He answered, "You will be among the first."She later sailed across the sea during the time of Muawiya, and when she came ashore she was thrown from her mount and died.
Malik narrated it in Jihad (39), from Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Talha, from Anas bin Malik, who related it. Bukhari narrated it in Jihad and Siyar (2788, 2789), and Muslim narrated it in Imarah (1912:160), both of them through the route of Malik, in like manner.Muslim added, from another route, after his saying, "You are among the first ones," He said, "Ubada bin Samit later married her, and he went on a naval campaign, taking her along with him. When she disembarked, a mule was brought near for her, and she mounted it, but it threw her off and broke her neck."
