When Abu Salama was on his deathbed, Umm Salama said, "To whom will you leave me?"He said, "O Allah, be better to Umm Salama than Abu Salama has been."When he passed away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proposed to her. She said, "I am advanced in years."He replied, "I am older than you. As for the children, they are the responsibility of Allah and His Messenger. As for jealousy, I pray that Allah will remove it from you."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married her and sent her two millstones and a jug for water.
لما حضرت أبا سلمة الوفاة، قالت أم سلمة: إلى من تكلني؟ فقال: اللهم إنك لأم سلمة خير من أبي سلمة، فلما توفي خطبها رسول الله ﷺ، فقالت: إني كبيرة السن، قال: أنا أكبر منك سنا، و العيال على الله و رسوله، و أما الغيرة فأرجو الله أن يذهبها فتزوجها رسول الله ﷺ، فأرسل إليها برحاءين و جرة للماء.

Abu Yaala (4161) narrated it from Abdul-Rahman bin Salih Azdi, who said, Ajlan bin Abdullah from Banu Adi told me, from Malik bin Dinar, from Anas, who said... and he then mentioned it. Hafiz mentioned it in Matalib Aliyah (4115), attributing it to Abu Yaala, and in it, "O Allah, give Umm Salama someone better as a substitute for Abu Salama," instead of, "O Allah, you are indeed better for Umm Salama than Abu Salama."Its chain is hasan because of Ajlan bin Abdullah, about whom Abu Zura was asked and said, "A Basran, there is no harm in him." Likewise, Abdul-Rahman bin Salih is hasan al-hadith.
