Ayesha said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to keep track of the days, asking, 'Where will I be today? Where will I be tomorrow?' eager for the day he would spend with me."She continued, "When my day came, Allah took his soul while he was between my chest and my throat."
إن كان رسول الله ﷺ ليتفقد يقول: أين أنا اليوم؟ أين أنا غدا؟ استبطاء ليوم عائشة قالت: فلما كان يومي قبضه الله قبضه الله بين سحري ونحري.
Bukhari narrated it in Fadail al-Sahabah (3774) from Ubayd bin Ismail, and Muslim narrated it in Fadail al-Sahabah (2443-84) from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, both of them from Abu Usama, from Hisham, from his father. Abu Bakr said, from Ayesha, while Ubayd said, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, during his illness, began going around among his wives saying, "Where am I tomorrow? Where am I tomorrow?" out of eagerness for Ayesha's house. Ayesha said, "When my day came, he settled down."This is the wording of Bukhari, while the wording of the chapter heading is Muslim's.
