The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You were shown to me in a dream on three nights. The angel came to me carrying you in a piece of silk and said, 'This is your wife.' I uncovered your face, and there you were. So I said, 'If this is from Allah, He will bring it to pass.'"
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Dream Interpretation (7012), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions (2438), both through Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, that she said. The wording of Bukhari is similar, and it states that the Prophet ﷺ saw her only twice, and that it was the angel himself who uncovered her face, with the following wording, "You were shown to me twice before I married you. I saw the angel carrying you in a piece of silk, so I said to him, 'Uncover her,' and he uncovered her, and there you were..."
