I was a guest of Abu Hurayrah for seven nights. He, his wife, and his servant would divide the night into three shifts. One would pray, then wake the next.I heard him say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed dates among his companions, and my share was seven dates, one of which was dry and shriveled."
تضيفت أبا هريرة سبعا، فكان هو وامرأته وخادمه يعتقبون الليل أثلاثا، يصلي هذا ثم يوقظ هذا، وسمعته يقول: قسم رسول الله ﷺ بين أصحابه تمرا، فأصابني سبع تمرات: إحداهن حشفة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Foods (5441) from Musaddad, who said, Hammad bin Zayd narrated to us, from Abbas Jariri, from Abu Uthman, who said, and then he related it.Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Foods (5442) through another route from Abu Hurairah, who said, "The Prophet ﷺ distributed dates among us, and my share of them was five, four dates and one shriveled date, and then I found that the shriveled date was the toughest of them on my molar."
