Miqdad reported,

Miqdad reported, "Two companions and I came forward, having lost our hearing and sight from sheer hardship. We began offering ourselves to the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but none of them would take us in. So we went to the Prophet ﷺ himself, and he brought us to his household, where there were three goats."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Milk these goats and divide the milk among us."Miqdad continued, "We would milk them, and each of us would drink his share, while we kept the Prophet's ﷺ share aside for him. He would come at night and give a greeting that would not wake anyone asleep but could be heard by anyone awake. Then he would go to the mosque and pray, then come to his drink and drink it.One night, Satan came to me after I had already drunk my share. He whispered, 'Muhammad goes to the Ansar and they give him gifts and he gets food at their homes. He has no need for this little drink.' So I went to it and drank it. Once it had settled in my stomach and I knew there was no way to get it back, Satan made me regret it. He said, 'Woe to you! What have you done? You've drunk Muhammad's drink! He'll come and not find it, then he'll curse you and you'll perish, losing both this world and the next.'I had on a small cloak. When I pulled it over my feet, my head was exposed, and when I pulled it over my head, my feet stuck out. Sleep would not come to me, while my two companions slept soundly, since they had not done what I had done. Then the Prophet ﷺ arrived and gave his greeting as he usually did. He went to the mosque and prayed, then came to his drink. He uncovered it and found nothing in it. He raised his head to the sky.I said to myself, 'Now he will curse me and I will be destroyed.'But he said, 'O Allah, feed whoever fed me and give drink to whoever gave me drink.'So I tightened my cloak around me, took the knife, and went to the goats to slaughter the fattest one for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. But I found her udder full, and indeed all of them had full udders. I went to a vessel belonging to the family of Muhammad ﷺ which they never expected milk to be drawn into, and I milked into it until the milk rose with froth. Then I brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."He asked, "Have you all drunk your drink tonight?"I said, "Messenger of Allah, drink."So he drank, then handed it to me.I said, "Messenger of Allah, drink."He drank again, then handed it to me. When I knew that the Prophet ﷺ had drunk his fill and that I had received the benefit of his prayer, I laughed until I fell to the ground. The Prophet ﷺ said, "One of your antics, Miqdad!"I said, "Messenger of Allah, my situation was such and such, and I did such and such."The Prophet ﷺ said, "This is nothing but a mercy from Allah. Why didn't you let me know so we could wake our two companions and they could share in it?"I said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, as long as I got it and you got it with me, I do not care who else among the people gets it."
