I witnessed an act from Miqdad bin Aswad that I would rather have been the one to do than anything else of equal value. He came to the Prophet ﷺ while the Prophet was supplicating against the polytheists, and he said, "We will not say as the people of Musa said, 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight.' Rather, we will fight on your right, on your left, in front of you, and behind you."I saw the face of the Prophet ﷺ light up with joy, delighted by what Miqdad had said.
شهدت من المقداد بن الأسود مشهدا لأن أكون صاحبه أحب إلى مما عدل به: أتى النبي ﷺ وهو يدعو على المشركين فقال: لا نقول كما قال قوم موسى: اذهب و أنت وربك فقاتلا، ولكنا نقاتل عن يمينك وعن شمالك وبين يديك وخلفك، فرأيت النبي ﷺ أشرق وجهه وسره، يعني قوله.
Bukhari related it in Al-Maghazi (3952) from Abu Naeem, who said, Israil narrated to us, from Makhariq, from Tariq bin Shihab, who said, I heard Ibn Masud say, then he mentioned it. His statement, "while he was praying against the polytheists," refers to the Day of Badr, against the disbelievers of Makkah, as reported in other hadiths.
