Anas bin Malik reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Basbasa as a scout to find out what Abu Sufyan's caravan was doing. He returned when no one was in the house except myself and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The narrator said, "I do not know which of his wives he made an exception for." Basbasa told him the news.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then went out and addressed the people, saying, "We have a target to pursue. Whoever has his mount ready, let him ride out with us."Some men began asking permission to fetch their mounts from the upper part of Madinah, but he said, "No, only those whose mounts are ready."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out with his companions and reached Badr ahead of the polytheists. When the polytheists arrived, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let none of you advance toward anything until I am the one in front of him."When the polytheists drew near, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Rise to a Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth."Umayr bin al-Humam al-Ansari said, "Messenger of Allah, a Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth?"He said, "Yes."Umayr exclaimed, "Excellent, excellent!"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What makes you say, 'Excellent, excellent'?"He replied, "Nothing, by Allah, Messenger of Allah, except the hope that I might be among its people."The Prophet said, "You are indeed among its people."Umayr then took out some dates from his quiver and began to eat them. Then he said, "If I live long enough to finish eating these dates of mine, that would be a long life indeed."So he threw away the dates he had with him, then fought them until he was killed.

عن أنس بن مالك قال

بعث رسول الله ﷺ بسيسة عينا ينظر ما صنعت عير أبي سفيان، فجاء وما في البيت أحد غيري وغير رسول الله ﷺ، قال: لا أدري ما استثنى بعض نسائه، قال: فحدثه الحديث، قال: فخرج رسول الله ﷺ فتكلم، فقال: إن لنا طلبة فمن كان ظهره حاضرا فليركب معنا فجعل رجال يستأذنونه في ظهرانهم علو المدينة، فقال: لا إلا من كان ظهره حاضرا. فانطلق رسول الله ﷺ وأصحابه حتى سبقوا المشركين إلى بدر، وجاء المشركون فقال: رسول الله ﷺ: لا يقدمن أحد منكم إلى شيء حتى أكون أنا دونه فدنا المشركون، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: قوموا إلى جنة عرضها السماوات والأرض. قال: يقول عمير بن الحمام الأنصاري: يا رسول الله جنة عرضها السماوات والأرض؟ قال: نعم. قال: بخ بخ، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: ما يحملك على قولك بخ بخ قال: لا والله يا رسول الله إلا رجاءة أن أكون من أهلها، قال: فإنك من أهلها. فأخرج تمرات من قرنه، فجعل يأكل منهن، ثم قال: لئن أنا حييت حتى أكل تمراتي هذه، إنها لحياة طويلة، قال: فرمى بما كان معه من التمر، ثم قاتلهم حتى قتل.
