Muslim narrated it in the book on Hajj (167:1226) from Ubaydullah bin Muaz, who said, my father narrated to us, Shuba narrated to us, from Humayd bin Hilal, from Mutarrif, who said, then he mentioned it.Darimi narrated it (1854) through another route from Mutarrif, who said, Imran bin Husayn said, "I am going to tell you something. He used to greet me with peace, but Ibn Ziyad ordered me, so I was cauterized, and it was withheld from me until the mark of the cauterization disappeared." That is, the cauterization.Muslim also narrated it (168:1226) through another route, from Shuba, from Qatada, from Mutarrif, who said, Imran bin Husayn sent for me during the illness from which he died, and said, "I was going to tell you some things, that Allah might benefit you with them after me. If I live, keep them concealed from me, but if I die, then narrate them if you wish. He used to greet me with peace..." and the hadith continues.It is said that he suffered from hemorrhoids and used to bear the pain patiently, and the angels used to greet him with peace, but when he was cauterized their greeting to him was cut off. Then he stopped the cauterization, and their greeting to him returned. Nawawi mentioned this.He was one whose prayers were answered, and it is said that he used to see the guardian angels, and they used to speak to him, until he was cauterized. When he was cauterized he lost that, then it returned to him, and that was two years before his death, as Ibn Abdul-Barr mentioned in Istiab.Umar sent him to the people of Basra to teach them jurisprudence. Ibn Sirin said, "None of the companions who settled in Basra was regarded above Imran." He also said, "The best of the companions who settled in Basra were Imran and Abu Bakra." Hasan used to swear that no one better for them had ever come to Basra than Imran.He died in the year fifty-two. And it is said, in the year fifty-three.This was particular to him and should not be treated as a general rule. It is recommended for whoever suffers from hemorrhoids to seek treatment, given the general nature of the Prophet's ﷺ statement, "Treat yourselves, servants of Allah, for Allah has not sent down a disease without sending down for it a cure," as is recorded in the book on medicine.
