The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Banu Salama, who is your chief?"We replied, "Jadd bin Qays, though we consider him stingy."He said, "And what disease is worse than stinginess? Rather, your chief is Amr bin Jamuh."Amr had been the custodian of their idols during the days of ignorance, and he used to host the wedding feasts on behalf of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ whenever he married.
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من سيدكم يا بني سلمة؟ قلنا: جد بن قيس على أنا نبخله. قال: وأي داء أدوى من البخل، بل سيدكم: عمرو بن الجموح وكان عمرو على أصنامهم في الجاهلية، وكان يولم عن رسول الله ﷺ إذا تزوج.

Bukhari reported it in Adab al-Mufrad (296) from Abdullah bin Abu Aswad, who said, Humayd bin Aswad narrated to us, from Hajjaj Sawwaf, who said, Abu Zubayr narrated to me, who said, Jabir narrated to us, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Humayd bin Aswad Basri Karabisi, and even though he is among the narrators of Bukhari, he sometimes made mistakes. His statement, "What disease is worse than stinginess," has daif corroborating narrations, and the one I have mentioned is the most sound of them.
