He used to say, "Tell me about a man who entered Paradise without ever having performed a single prayer."When people did not recognize who he meant, they would ask him, "Who is he?"He would reply, "Usayrim of Banu Abd al-Ashhal, Amr bin Thabit bin Waqsh."Husayn said, I asked Mahmud bin Labeed, "What was the story of Usayrim?"He said, He had refused to accept Islam along with his people. But on the day of Uhud, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out for Uhud, Islam suddenly appealed to him, so he embraced it. He took his sword, set off, and reached the army, mingling among the ranks. He fought until his wounds disabled him. While Some men of Banu Abd al-Ashhal were searching for their dead on the battlefield, they came upon him. They said, "By Allah, this is Usayrim! What brought him here? We left him still rejecting this religion. Ask him what brought him."They said, "What brought you here, Amr? Was it concern for your people, or a desire for Islam?"He answered, "Rather, a desire for Islam. I believed in Allah and His Messenger and accepted Islam. Then I took my sword and went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and fought until what has befallen me befell me."He died in their hands shortly afterward. They mentioned him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "He is indeed among the people of Paradise."
Ahmad (23634) narrated it from Yaqub bin Ibrahim, who said, my father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said, Husayn bin Abdul-Rahman bin Amr bin Saad bin Muaz narrated to me, from Abu Sufyan, the freed slave of Ibn Abu Ahmad, from Abu Hurairah, who related it.Its chain is hasan because of Ibn Ishaq and Husayn bin Abdul-Rahman, for both of them make a hadith hasan. Ibn Hajar also graded it hasan in Isabah (5811).His saying, "be tender toward your people," hadab means compassion and tenderness.
