We came to Umar in a delegation, and he began calling each man one by one, naming them. I said, "Do you not recognize me, Commander of the Believers?"He replied, "Of course I do. You embraced Islam when others disbelieved, you came forward when they turned away, you kept faith when they betrayed, and you acknowledged the truth when they denied it."Adi said, "Then I have no concern after that."
أتينا: عمر في فد، فجعل يدعو رجلا رجلا ويسميهم، فقلت: أما تعرفني يا أمير المؤمنين؟ قال: بلى، أسلمت إذا كفروا، وأقبلت إذا أدبروا، ووفيت إذا غدروا، وعرفت إذا أنكروا، فقال عدي: فلا أبالي إذا.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4394) from Musa bin Ismail, who said, Abu Awana told us, Abdul-Malik told us, from Amr bin Hurayth, from Adi bin Hatim, who said what has already been mentioned.
