When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a journey, the children of his household would be brought out to meet him. He returned from one such journey, and I was the first to be brought to him, so he placed me in front of him on his mount. Then one of Fatimah's two sons was brought, and he seated him behind him. So we entered Madinah three on a single mount.
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا قدم من سفر تلقي بصبيان أهل بيته، قال: وإنه قدم من سفر فسبق بي إليه فحملني بين يديه، ثم جيء بأحد ابني فاطمة، فأردفه خلفه، قال: فأدخلنا المدينة ثلاثة على دابة.
Muslim narrated it in the Virtues of the Companions (2428-66) through several routes from Abu Muawiya, from Asim Ahwal, from Murawaq Ajli, from Abdullah bin Jafar, who said, then he mentioned it.In another wording, "When the Prophet ﷺ returned from a journey, we would go out to meet him. He said, they went out to meet me along with Hasan or Husayn. He said, he carried one of us in front of him and the other behind him until we entered Madinah."Muslim narrated it (2428-67) through another route from Asim Ahwal, with the same wording.
