The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had wiped over him. He saw Saad bin Abu Waqqas perform the witr prayer with a single rakah.
- وكان رسول الله ﷺ قد مسح عنه- أنه رأى سعد بن أبي وقاص يوتر بركعة.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Supplications (6356), from Abu Yaman, who said, Shuayb informed us, from Zuhri, who said, Abdullah bin Thalaba bin Sueir informed me, and he mentioned it.Ahmad related it (23667) with this chain, and its wording is,"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had wiped his face at the time of the conquest, when he saw Saad bin Abu Waqqas, and Saad had been present at Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, praying witr with a single rakat after the isha prayer, meaning the late night prayer, not adding to it until he would rise in the depths of the night."
