The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "People, fear Allah and be moderate in seeking provision, for no soul will die until it has received its provision in full, even if it comes slowly. So fear Allah and be moderate in seeking. Take what is lawful and leave what is forbidden."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: أيها الناس اتقوا الله، وأجملوا في الطلب، فإن نفسا لن تموت حتى تستوفي رزقها، وإن أبطأ عنها. فاتقوا الله، وأجملوا في الطلب، خذوا ما حل، ودعوا ما حرم.
Ibn Majah (2144) narrated it from Muhammad bin Musaffa Himsi, who said, Walid bin Muslim told us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it. In the chain are Walid bin Muslim, his teacher Ibn Jurayj, and his teacher Abu Zubayr, all of whom are known to practice tadlis, and they narrated using ambiguous transmission phrasing. Ibn Abu Asim also narrated it by this route in As-Sunnah (420), but with the wording that follows it.The hadith has another route that is better than this one, and it is the one to be relied upon. This is what Ibn Hibban (3239, 3241), Hakim (4/2), and Bayhaqi (5/264) all narrated by another route, from Abdullah bin Wahb, who said, Amr bin Harith told me, from Saeed bin Abu Hilal, from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Jabir bin Abdullah, as a marfu narration, "Do not think provision is slow in coming, for a servant will never die until the last portion of provision destined for him reaches him. So be moderate in seeking it, taking what is lawful and leaving what is unlawful."Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim)." I say, it is indeed so, though there is some dispute regarding Saeed bin Abu Hilal, except that his hadith is hasan. Ibn Saad, Ajli, Ibn Khuzayma, Daraqutni, and others deemed him reliable, though it has been reported from Ahmad that he became confused in his later years.
