Ayesha reported,

I was late returning one night during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, after the evening prayer. When I came back, he asked, "Where were you?"I replied, "I was listening to the recitation of one of your companions. I have never heard anyone recite or have a voice like his."She said, He got up and I went with him until he listened to the man. Then he turned to me and said, "This is Salim, the freed slave of Abu Huzaifa. Praise be to Allah, who has placed someone like this among my community."

عن عائشة قالت

أبطأت على عهد رسول الله ﷺ ليلة بعد العشاء، ثم جئت فقال: أين كنت؟ قلت: كنت أستمع قراءة رجل من أصحابك لم أسمع مثل قراءته وصوته من أحد. قالت: فقام وقمت معه حتى استمع له، ثم التفت إلي فقال: هذا سالم، مولى أبي حذيفة، الحمد لله الذي جعل في أمتي مثل هذا.
