Ayesha reported,
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never sent Zayd bin Haritha out with an army without putting him in command over them, and had he survived him, he would have appointed him as his successor.

Hasanعن عائشة قالت
ما بعث رسول الله ﷺ زيد بن حارثة في جيش قط إلا أمره عليهم، ولو بقي بعده لاستخلفه.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (25898) from Muhammad bin Ubayd, who said, Waail bin Dawud narrated to me, saying, I heard Bahiy narrating from Ayesha, who said, and then he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Bahiy, whose name is Abdullah, the freed slave of Musab bin Zubayr, for he is hasan al-hadith. Imam Ahmad denied that he heard from Ayesha, but Bukhari affirmed it, saying in his Tarikh al-Kabir (5/56), "Abdullah al-Bahiy heard from Ibn Umar, Ibn Zubayr, and Ayesha 
."I say, the one who affirms takes precedence over the one who denies, because of his greater knowledge.
