When the first emigrants arrived at al-Usbah, a place in Quba, before the arrival of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Salim, the freed slave of Abu Huzaifa, used to lead them in prayer, as he had memorized the most Quran among them.
لما قدم المهاجرون الأولون العصبة- موضع بقباء- قبل مقدم رسول الله ﷺ، كان يؤمهم سالم مولى أبي حذيفة، وكان أكثرهم قرآنا.
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Adhan (692) from Ibrahim bin Munzir, who said, Anas bin Iyad narrated to us, from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, and he related it as mentioned.Bukhari also reported it in the Book of Rulings (7175) through the route of Ibn Jurayj, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, who said, "Salim, the freed slave of Abu Huzaifa, used to lead the earliest emigrants and the companions of the Prophet ﷺ in prayer at the Masjid of Quba, among them Abu Bakr, Umar, Abu Salama, Zayd, and Amir bin Rabia."
