Umar passed by Hassan while he was reciting poetry in the mosque and gave him a sharp glance.Hassan said, "I used to recite poetry here in the presence of one who was better than you."Then he turned to Abu Hurairah and said, "I ask you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Answer on my behalf. O Allah, support him with the Holy Spirit'?"Abu Hurairah replied, "By Allah, yes."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Beginning of Creation (3212), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions (2485-151), both of them through routes from Sufyan bin Uyayna, who said, Zuhri narrated to us, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and he mentioned it. This wording is Muslim's, and Bukhari's account is similar to it, except that Bukhari did not mention Abu Hurairah in his chain, but the mention of Abu Hurairah in the text indicates that Saeed heard it from him.
