I was with the Prophet ﷺ when Harmala bin Zayd came and sat before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.He said, "Messenger of Allah, faith is here," pointing with his hand to his tongue, "and hypocrisy is here," pointing with his hand to his chest, "and he scarcely remembers Allah."The Prophet ﷺ remained silent. Harmala repeated this to him, and the Prophet ﷺ still said nothing. Then the Prophet ﷺ took hold of the tip of Harmala's tongue and said, "O Allah, grant him a truthful tongue and a grateful heart, bless him with love for me and love for those who love me, and turn his affairs toward what is good."Harmala said, "Messenger of Allah, I have brothers who are hypocrites, and I was their leader. Shall I not point them out to you?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "No. Whoever comes to us as you have come, we will seek forgiveness for him as we have sought forgiveness for you. As for whoever persists in his sin, Allah has more right to deal with him. Do not tear away the covering from anyone."

Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir (5/4–6), Ibn Manda in Marifat al-Sahabah (1/386), and Abu Naeem in Marifat al-Sahabah (2/864), all of them through Haytham bin Kharija, who said, Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid bin Jabir narrated to us, from Abu Dhabha, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, from Ibn Umar, and he related it."Abu Dhabha" appears in Ibn Manda as "Abu Dalja," and appears in Ibn Kathir's Jami al-Masanid (2110) as "Abu Dhabiha," so perhaps some corruption occurred in it. I did not come across his biography in the sources, except that Haythami said in Al-Majma (9/410), "His narrators are the narrators of the sahih," without attributing it to anyone in particular. Ibn Hajar said in Al-Isaba (1674), after attributing it to Tabarani, "Its isnad is not problematic, and Ibn Manda also narrated it."Its isnad is hasan, based on the statements of Haythami and Ibn Hajar, even though I did not come across a biography of Abu Dalja.
