Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

Jabir said, I set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the expedition of Dhat ar-Riqa, riding on a weak camel of mine. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned back, the other companions began to move ahead while I kept falling behind, until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ caught up with me.He asked, "What is the matter with you, Jabir?"I replied, "Messenger of Allah, this camel of mine is slowing me down."He said, "Make him kneel."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also made his own camel kneel, then said, "Hand me that staff in your hand," or he said, "Cut me a stick from a tree."I did so. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it and prodded the camel with it a few times, then said, "Mount."I mounted, and by the One who sent him with the truth, my camel set off keeping pace with his she-camel.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ talked with me along the way and asked, "Will you sell me this camel of yours, Jabir?"I said, "Messenger of Allah, I would rather give him to you as a gift."He said, "No, sell him to me."I said, "Then name a price."He said, "I will take him for a dirham."I said, "No, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would be cheating me."He said, "For two dirhams, then."I said, "No."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept raising the price for me until he reached an ounce of silver.I said, "I am content with that."He asked, "You are content?"I said, "Yes. He is yours."He said, "I have taken him."Then he said to me, "Jabir, have you married yet?"I said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He asked, "A previously married woman or a virgin?"I said, "A previously married woman."He said, "Why not a young girl, that you might play with her and she with you?"I said, "Messenger of Allah, my father was killed at Uhud and left behind seven daughters of his, so I married a capable woman who can gather them under her care and look after them."He said, "You have done well, Allah willing."Then he said, "When we reach Sirar, we will order a camel to be slaughtered, and we will spend that day there. She will hear of our coming and will shake out her cushions."I said, "By Allah, Messenger of Allah, we have no cushions."He said, "There will be. So when you arrive, act wisely."When we reached Sirar, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a camel to be slaughtered, and we spent that day there. When evening came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went into the city, and we did the same.I told my wife what had happened and what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said to me.She said, "Then go ahead, with hearing and obedience."In the morning, I took the camel by its head and brought it until I made it kneel at the door of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then I sat in the mosque near him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and saw the camel and asked, "What is this?"They said, "Messenger of Allah, this is a camel that Jabir has brought."He asked, "Where is Jabir?"I was called for him.He said, "Come, my nephew. Take your camel by its head, for he is yours."He then called Bilal and said, "Take Jabir and give him an ounce of silver."I went with him, and he gave me an ounce, with a little extra added to it.By Allah, the camel kept multiplying its blessings for us, and we used to recognize his place in our home, until he was lost yesterday among what people lost, meaning on the day of al-Harrah.

عن جابر بن عبد الله

قال خرجت مع رسول الله ﷺ في غزوة ذات الرقاع مرتحلا على جمل لي ضعيف، فلما قفل رسول الله ﷺ جعلت الرفاق تمضي، وجعلت أتخلف حتى أدركني رسول الله ﷺ، فقال: ما لك يا جابر؟ قال: قلت: يا رسول الله أبطأ بي جملي هذا، قال: فأنخه وأناخ رسول الله ﷺ، ثم قال: أعطني هذه العصا من يدك،- أو قال اقطع لي عما من شجرة- قال: ففعلت، قال: فأخذ رسول الله ﷺ فنخسه بها نخسات، ثم قال: اركب، فركبت، فخرج والذي بعثه بالحق يواهق ناقته مواهقة، قال: وتحدث معي رسول الله ﷺ فقال: أتبيعني جملك هذا يا جابر؟ قال: قلت: يا رسول الله بل أهبه لك، قال: لا، ولكن بعنيه، قال: قلت: فسمني به، قال: قد قلت: أخذته بدرهم، قال: قلت: لا إذا يغبنني رسول الله ﷺ، قال: فبدر همين قال: قلت: لا، قال: فلم يزل يرفع لي رسول الله ﷺ حتى بلغ الأوقية، قال: قلت: فقد رضيت، قال: قد رضيت؟ قلت: نعم. قلت: هو لك قال: قد أخذته. قال: ثم قال لي: يا جابر هل تزوجت بعد؟ قال: قلت: نعم يا رسول الله، قال: أثيبا أم بكرا؟ قال: قلت: بل ثيبا، قال: أفلا جارية تلاعبها وتلاعبك؟ قال: قلت: يا رسول الله إن أبي أصيب يوم أحد، وترك بنات له سبعا، فنكحت امرأة جامعة تجمع رؤوسهن وتقوم عليهن، قال: أصبت إن شاء الله. قال: أما إنا لو قد جئنا صرارا أمرنا بجزور، فنحرت، وأقمنا عليها يومنا ذلك، وسمعت بنا، فنفضت نمارقها، قال: قلت: والله يا رسول الله ما لنا من نمارق، قال: إنها ستكون، فإذا أنت قدمت فاعمل عملا كيسا، قال: فلما جئنا صرارا أمر رسول الله ﷺ بجزور، فنحرت، فأقمنا عليها ذلك اليوم، فلما أمسى رسول الله ﷺ دخل، ودخلنا، قال: فأخبرت المرأة الحديث وما قال لى رسول الله ﷺ، قالت: فدونك فسمعا وطاعة. قال: فلما أصبحت أخذت برأس الجمل، فأقبلت به حتى أنخته على باب رسول الله ﷺ، ثم جلست في المسجد قريبا منه، قال: وخرج رسول الله ﷺ فرأى الجمل، فقال: ما هذا؟ قالوا: يا رسول الله هذا جمل جاء به جابر، قال: فأين جابر؟ فدعيت له، قال: تعال أي يا ابن أخي، خذ برأس جملك فهو لك، قال: فدعا بلالا، فقال: اذهب بجابر فأعطه أوقية، فذهبت معه، فأعطاني أوقية، وزادني شيئا يسيرا، قال: فوالله مازال ينمي عندنا ونرى مكانه من بيتنا حتى أصيب أمس فيما أصيب الناس، يعني: يوم الحرة.
