Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "If the wealth of Bahrain comes, I will give you this much and this much and this much," gesturing three times. But the wealth of Bahrain did not arrive until after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had passed away. When it finally reached Abu Bakr, he ordered a caller to announce, "Whoever had a debt owed to him by the Prophet ﷺ or a promise made to him, let him come to me."Jabir said, "So I went to Abu Bakr and told him that the Prophet ﷺ had said, 'If the wealth of Bahrain comes, I will give you this much and this much and this much,' three times." He gave it to me.Jabir continued, "I met Abu Bakr after that and asked him, but he did not give me anything. Then I came to him again, and he did not give me anything. Then I came to him a third time, and he did not give me anything. So I said to him, 'I came to you and you did not give me, then I came to you and you did not give me, then I came to you and you did not give me. Either give me, or be miserly with me.'"Abu Bakr replied, "Did you say, 'be miserly with me'? What disease is worse than miserliness?" He repeated this three times. "I have not refused you on any occasion except that I intended to give you."And from Amr, from Muhammad bin Ali, who heard Jabir bin Abdullah say, "I came to him, and Abu Bakr said to me, 'Count it.' So I counted it and found it to be five hundred. He said, 'Take the same amount twice more.'"

عن جابر بن عبد الله يقول

قال لي رسول الله ﷺ: لو قد جاء مال البحرين لقد أعطيتك هكذا وهكذا ثلاثا، فلم يقدم مال البحرين حتى قبض رسول الله ﷺ، فلما قدم على أبي بكر أمر مناديا فنادى: من كان له عند النبي ﷺ دين أو عدة فليأتني. قال جابر: فجئت أبا بكر فأخبرته أن النبي ﷺ قال: لو جاء مال البحرين أعطيتك هكذا وهكذا ثلاثا. قال: فأعطاني. قال جابر: فلقيت أبا بكر بعد ذلك، فسألته فلم يعطني، ثم أتيته فلم يعطني، ثم أتيته الثالثة فلم يعطني، فقلت له: قد أتيتك فلم تعطني، ثم أتيتك فلم تعطني، ثم أتيتك فلم تعطني، فإما أن تعطيني وإما أن تبخل عني. فقال: أقلت تبخل عني؟ وأي داء أدوأ من البخل، قالها ثلاثا، ما منعتك من مرة إلا وأنا أريد أن أعطيك. وعن عمرو، عن محمد بن علي، سمعت جابر بن عبد الله يقول: جئته، فقال لي أبو بكر: عدها، فعددتها، فوجدتها خمس مائة، فقال: خذ مثلها مرتين.
