They said, "Messenger of Allah, tell us of a deed that equals striving in the path of Allah."He replied, "You will not be able to do it." He said this two or three times.They said, "Tell us anyway, perhaps we will be able to."He said, "The example of the one who strives in the path of Allah is like that of one who fasts, stands in prayer, and is devoutly obedient to the verses of Allah, never tiring of fasting or prayer until the warrior returns to his family."
حدثنا أبو معاوية قال حدثنا سهيل عن أبيه
قالوا يا رسول الله أخبرنا بعمل يعدل الجهاد في سبيل الله قال لا تطيقونه مرتين أو ثلاثا قال قالوا أخبرنا فلعلنا نطيقه قال مثل المجاهد في سبيل الله كمثل الصائم القائم القانت بآيات الله لا يفتر من صيام ولا صلاة حتى يرجع المجاهد إلى أهله
