The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I tell you who the best among you are?"They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah."He said, "The best among you are those with the longest lives and the finest character."
Its isnad is hasan. Ahmad bin Abdul-Malik is trustworthy, and he was deemed daif without justification. Muhammad bin Ishaq is trustworthy though he practiced tadlis, and Haythami graded his narration hasan despite his use of "an" (indicating a possibly concealed link in transmission). The hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah, 2/1379, no. 4119, in the chapter on Zuhd, on those who are given no regard, and he graded it hasan in Zawaid. It was also narrated by Ibn Hibban, 610, no. 2465.
