I was with Ibn Umar when he was asked about eating hedgehog. He recited this verse, "Say, I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden..." [Anam 6:145], to the end of the verse.An old man with him said, "I heard Abu Hurayrah say that this was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, 'It is foul, one of the foul creatures.'"Ibn Umar said, "If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said it, then it is as he said."

كنت عند ابن عمر فسئل عن أكل القنفذ فتلا هذه الآية {قل لا أجد فيما أوحي إلي محرما} إلى آخر الآية فقال شيخ عنده سمعت أبا هريرة يقول ذكر عند النبي ﷺ فقال خبيث من الخبائث فقال ابن عمر إن كان قاله رسول الله ﷺ فهو كما قاله
Its isnad is daif, it contains unknown narrators, Isa bin Numayla, his father, and the narrator from Abu Hurairah.The hadith was related by Abu Dawud (3799) in the chapter on foods, and Bayhaqi (9/326). Because of this, and because of other evidence, Shafii did not adopt it, while Abu Hanifa adopted it and ruled that the hedgehog is forbidden. Shafii permitted it, just as he permitted the hyena, the weasel, and the fox.
