It is reported from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he wiped over his leather socks. Abdullah bin Umar asked Umar about this, and he replied, "Yes. When Saad narrates something to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, do not ask anyone else about it."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. It is a summary of what came before it, and it supports the narration of Ibn Lahia. Bukhari reported it in 1/52 via Amr bin Harith, and cited it in a suspended chain via Musa bin Uqba, both of them from Abu Nadr. See what follows at 237, 1452, 3462, and see Fath al-Bari 2/264.
