"I have never seen a man whose prayer more closely resembled that of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than so-and-so," referring to an imam in Madinah.Sulayman bin Yasar said, "I prayed behind him. He would lengthen the first two units of the noon prayer and shorten the last two, shorten the afternoon prayer entirely, recite from the short surahs of the Mufassal in the first two units of the sunset prayer, recite from the middle of the Mufassal in the first two units of the night prayer, and recite from the long surahs of the Mufassal in the dawn prayer."Dahhak said, "Someone who heard Anas bin Malik told me that he said, 'I have never seen anyone whose prayer more closely resembled the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than this young man,' meaning Umar bin Abdul-Aziz."Dahhak said, "I prayed behind Umar bin Abdul-Aziz, and he would do just as Sulayman bin Yasar described."
حدثنا أبو بكر الحنفي حدثنا الضحاك بن عثمان عن بكير بن عبد الله بن الأشج عن سليمان بن يسار
ما رأيت رجلا أشبه صلاة برسول الله ﷺ من فلان لإمام كان بالمدينة قال سليمان بن يسار فصليت خلفه فكان يطيل الأوليين من الظهر ويخفف الأخريين ويخفف العصر ويقرأ في الأوليين من المغرب بقصار المفصل ويقرأ في الأوليين من العشاء من وسط المفصل ويقرأ في الغداة بطوال المفصل قال الضحاك وحدثني من سمع أنس بن مالك يقول ما رأيت أحدا أشبه صلاة بصلاة رسول الله ﷺ من هذا الفتى يعني عمر بن عبد العزيز قال الضحاك فصليت خلف عمر بن عبد العزيز وكان يصنع مثل ما قال سليمان بن يسار
Its chain of transmission is sahih, except for the portion at the end concerning Anas bin Malik, for Dahhak bin Uthman narrated it from someone who told him, on the authority of Anas, and this constitutes a break in the chain.
