The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, a day will surely come upon one of you when to see me, simply to see me, would be dearer to him than his family and his wealth, and as much again along with them."
وقال رسول الله ﷺ والذي نفس محمد بيده ليأتين على أحدكم يوم لأن يراني ثم لأن يراني أحب إليه من أهله وماله ومثلهم معهم
This is sahih like the previous one, and it is in Sahifa Mufradah under number 28. Muslim narrated it [7:96 S / 2:223 Bulaq] through the same route.Muslim's wording is, "a day, and he will not see me, then for him to see me," which agrees with the wording of Sahifa Mufradah, though there it reads "he will not see me" without the waw, which agrees with what is in K. What we have established here agrees with what is in H and M, except for "than his family and his wealth and the like of them with them." The phrase "and the like of them" is an addition found only in the printed edition J, I did not see it in any of the manuscripts or narrations. It appears to be an alteration made by a copyist or a printer.In Sahih Muslim, following the hadith, it says, Abu Ishaq said, "In my view, the meaning of it is that for him to see me with them would be dearer to him than his family and his wealth, and in my opinion the wording here is transposed."Nawawi said [15:118], "This is what Abu Ishaq said, and it is also what Qadi Iyad said, and he confined himself to it. He said its meaning is, for him to see me with them would be dearer to him than his family and his wealth, and then he will not see me."It likewise appears in Musnad Saeed bin Mansur, "A day will surely come upon one of you when for him to see me would be dearer to him than having the equivalent of his family and his wealth, and then he will not see me," meaning that seeing me is more excellent to him and more precious than his family and his wealth.
