The Prophet ﷺ recited Surah an-Najm and prostrated, and the people prostrated along with him except for two men who sought to draw attention to themselves.
حدثنا أبو عامر حدثنا ابن أبي ذئب عن الحارث عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن ثوبان
أن النبي ﷺ قرأ النجم فسجد وسجد الناس معه إلا رجلين أرادا الشهرة
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Amir is Aqdi, Abdul-Malik bin Amr. Harith is the son of Abdul-Rahman bin Harith, and he is the maternal uncle of Ibn Abu Dhib. His verification as reliable was given previously at 7898.The hadith appears in Jami al-Masanid 7/373, and Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid 2/285. There it reads, "except two men from Quraysh who intended by that reputation." He said, "Tabarani related it in Kabir, and its narrators are trustworthy." His placing Tabarani first indicates that the wording he recorded is the wording of Tabarani.Suyuti mentioned it in Durr Manthur 6/121, attributing it to Ibn Abu Shayba alone.
