I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ encouraging people to perform the night prayer in Ramadan, saying, "Whoever stands in prayer during it out of faith and seeking reward will have his past sins forgiven." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not gather the people together for this night prayer.
حدثنا إسماعيل بن عمر حدثنا ابن أبي ذئب عن ابن شهاب عن أبي سلمة بن عبد الرحمن
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يرغب الناس في قيام رمضان ويقول من قامه إيمانا واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه ولم يكن رسول الله ﷺ جمع الناس على القيام
Its isnad is sahih. Its beginning has already appeared, in abridged form, with this same isnad at 7279. It has also already appeared at 7774, through the narration of Mamar from Zuhri, without his statement, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not gathered the people for the standing prayer."
