The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared the area between the two lava fields of Madinah a sanctuary. Abu Hurairah said, "If I were to find gazelles roaming between its two lava fields, I would not startle them." He also designated twelve miles around Madinah as protected pasture.
Its isnad is sahih. Muslim related it 1:387 through Abdul-Razzaq, with this same isnad. It has already appeared in brief form at 7217, through the narration of Malik from Zuhri, but in this narration of Abdul-Razzaq there is an addition, that he made twelve miles around Madinah a protected zone, and this is obviously part of the elevated hadith. Bukhari did not relate it, and the Hafiz stated plainly in Fath al-Bari 4:32 that it is one of the additions of Muslim."Ma dhaartuha" means "I did not frighten it," as we explained in the previous narration. In H here it appears as "ma dhakartuha" ("I did not mention it"), which is a clear printing error. See 7469.
