The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever spends a pair of anything from his wealth in the cause of Allah will be called from the gates of Paradise. Paradise has several gates. Whoever is among the people of prayer will be called from the gate of prayer. Whoever is among the people of charity will be called from the gate of charity. Whoever is among the people of jihad will be called from the gate of jihad. And whoever is among the people of fasting will be called from the gate of Rayyan."Abu Bakr said, "By Allah, Messenger of Allah, there is no hardship upon anyone called from any of these gates. But will anyone be called from all of them, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Yes, and I hope you will be among them."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا معمر عن الزهري عن حميد بن عبد الرحمن
قال رسول الله ﷺ من أنفق زوجين من ماله في سبيل الله دعي من أبواب الجنة وللجنة أبواب فمن كان من أهل الصلاة دعي من باب الصلاة ومن كان من أهل الصدقة دعي من باب الصدقة ومن كان من أهل الجهاد دعي من باب الجهاد ومن كان من أهل الصيام دعي من باب الريان فقال أبو بكر والله يا رسول الله ما على أحد من ضرورة من أيها دعي فهل يدعى منها كلها أحد يا رسول الله قال نعم وإني أرجو أن تكون منهم
Its isnad is sahih. Muslim (1:281) also reported it from Abd bin Humayd, from Abdul-Razzaq, with this same isnad, but he did not mention its wording. Malik reported it in Muwatta (p. 469) from Zuhri, with this same isnad, in similar wording. Bukhari (4:96) likewise reported it through Malik's route. Bukhari also reported it (7:21-22) through Shuayb's route, and Muslim (1:281) through Yunus's route and through Salih's route, that is, Ibn Kaysan, all three of them reporting from Zuhri. Tirmidhi and Nasai also reported it, as noted in Fath Kabir (3:173).Regarding his saying, "whoever spends two pairs," Ibn Athir said, the original meaning of zawj (pair) is a kind or category of anything. Any two things that are joined together, whether alike or opposite, are a pair, zawjan, and each one of them is a zawj. He means, whoever spends two kinds of his wealth in the path of Allah.Hafiz said in Fath, "in the path of Allah" means in seeking the reward of Allah, which is broader than jihad and other acts of worship.
