The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have been granted victory through awe, I have been given the most concise yet comprehensive speech, and while I was sleeping, the keys to the treasures of the earth were brought and placed in my hand."Abu Hurairah said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has departed, and you are now drawing out those treasures."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن الزهري عن ابن المسيب وأبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ نصرت بالرعب وأعطيت جوامع الكلام وبينا أنا نائم إذ جيء بمفاتيح خزائن الأرض فوضعت في يدي فقال أبو هريرة لقد ذهب رسول الله ﷺ وأنتم تنتثلونها
Its chain of transmission is sahih. It is in Jami al-Masanid 7:161-162, given at length as no. 7575, where we referred to it. As for this version, Muslim narrated it (1:147) from Muhammad bin Rafi and Abd bin Humayd, both of them from Abdul-Razzaq with this chain, though he did not give its wording, referring instead to the narration before it. Nasai also narrated it (2:52-53) through Zubaydi, from Zuhri, with this same chain.As for his saying "and I was given the comprehensive words," this is how it is recorded in H and M. In K and in Jami al-Masanid it appears as "the comprehensive words," matching the rest of the narrations.As for Abu Hurairah's saying, "and you are extracting it," it means "you are drawing it out." It is said "nathala the well" meaning he removed its dirt, and "he drew out his quiver" meaning he took out the arrows within it. The pronoun here refers to wealth and to the splendor of this world that was opened up to them, as indicated by his ﷺ saying, "The keys of the treasures of the earth were brought and placed in my hand." Abu Hurairah is pointing out that he ﷺ went on to the Most Exalted Companion before the conquests about which he had given his nation glad tidings, and so he attained none of it.
