The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have been given concise yet comprehensive speech, and the earth has been made for me a place of prayer and a means of purification."
حدثنا عبدة حدثنا محمد بن عمرو عن أبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ أوتيت جوامع الكلم وجعلت لي الأرض مسجدا وطهورا
Its isnad is sahih. Abdah is Ibn Sulayman Kullabi Kufi, whose reliability was already established at 1293, and we add here that Ibn Saad gave his biography in Tabaqat 6:272, and Ibn Abu Hatim at 89/1/3. The hadith is a fragment of a well-known longer hadith, which will come at 9326. A fragment of it has already passed at 7265, where we pointed to some of its sourcing, and referred to this point there. As for his saying "I was given the comprehensive words," Ibn Athir said, he means the Quran, in which Allah, by His grace, gathered many meanings into few words. He then said regarding the description of his speech, that he used to speak in comprehensive words, meaning that his speech was rich in meaning while sparing in words. This is perhaps what is meant in this hadith as well.
