The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The most complete of believers in faith are those with the best character, and the best of you are those who are best to their women."
حدثنا ابن إدريس قال سمعت محمد بن عمرو عن أبي سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ أكمل المؤمنين إيمانا أحسنهم خلقا وخيارهم خيارهم لنسائهم
Its isnad is sahih. Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqama bin Waqqas Laythi, his reliability was established previously at 1405, and we add here that Ibn Abu Hatim gave his biography at 30/1/4–31. The hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi at 204 through Abdah bin Sulayman, from Muhammad bin Amr, with this same isnad. Tirmidhi said, this is a hasan sahih hadith. Abu Dawud narrated only its first half, "The most complete of the believers in faith are those with the best character," at 4682 [Awn al-Mabud 4:354], from Ahmad bin Hanbal, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Muhammad bin Amr, with this same isnad. It will come in full at 10110, through the narration of Imam Ahmad from Yahya bin Saeed. Munziri mentioned it in Targhib wal-Tarhib 3:72, and Suyuti in Jami Saghir 1441, both attributing it to Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibban included it in his Sahih. In all the narrations we have referred to, the wording is "and the best of you are the best of you," using the second-person pronoun, but in the three original manuscripts here it appears with the third-person pronoun.
