The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We are the last to come yet the first on the Day of Resurrection, even though they were given the Scripture before us and we were given it after them. This is the day they were commanded to honor, but they differed concerning it, so Allah guided us to it. Today belongs to us, tomorrow belongs to the Jews, and the day after tomorrow belongs to the Christians."
Its isnad is sahih, and Muslim related it 1:234 through Jareer, from Amash, with the same wording. It has already appeared in similar form at 7308 and 7393.As for his saying, "except that they," this is the correct reading, established in S and K, and it agrees with what is in Sahih Muslim. It is likewise established in M, except that a blank space was left between the words "except" and "that they," and a note was written in its margin, "there is a similar blank in another copy," but there is no meaning to this blank, since the passage is complete and the wording is correct. In H, "that" appears instead of "that they," and then a blank was left after the word "that." The printer's proofreader wrote in the margin, "this is how it appears blank in the manuscripts available to us."
