If you were to see the gazelles in Madinah, I would not frighten them away, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What lies between its two lava fields is sacred."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن عن مالك عن الزهري عن سعيد بن المسيب
لو رأيت الظباء بالمدينة ما ذعرتها إن رسول الله ﷺ قال ما بين لابتيها حرام
Its isnad is sahih, and it is in Muwatta, p. 889. Bukhari related it, 4:77, from Abdullah bin Yusuf, and Muslim, 1:387, from Yahya bin Yahya, both of them from Malik, with this wording. See also what has previously appeared in the Musnad of Ali bin Abu Talib, 959, 1297, and the Musnad of Saad bin Abu Waqqas, 1457, 1573."I did not frighten it," meaning the labah, which is the harrah, the ground covered with abundant black stones.
