The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever begs from people to accumulate wealth is only asking for live coals, so let him ask for little or much."
حدثنا محمد بن فضيل حدثنا عمارة عن أبي زرعة
قال رسول الله ﷺ من سأل الناس أموالهم تكثرا فإنما يسأل جمرا فليستقل منه أو ليستكثر
Its isnad is sahih, and Muslim reported it 1:284, and Ibn Majah 1:289, both of them through Ibn Fudayl, with this same isnad. It is also found in al-Muntaqa 2049, and Targhib wal-Tarhib 2:4. See also 1252, 5680.His saying "to increase" means so that he may increase his wealth by it, or by way of persistence and excessiveness in asking.
