The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of continuous fasting." He repeated this three times.They said, "But you yourself fast continuously, Messenger of Allah."He replied, "You are not like me in this regard. I spend the night with my Lord feeding me and giving me drink. So take on only what you are able to bear of religious works."

قال رسول الله ﷺ إياكم والوصال قالها ثلاث مرار قالوا فإنك تواصل يا رسول الله قال إنكم لستم في ذلك مثلي إني أبيت يطعمني ربي ويسقيني فاكلفوا من العمل ما تطيقون
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari and Muslim also related it, as in al-Muntaqa 2159. Its meaning has already occurred repeatedly, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Umar, the first instance being 4721 and the last being 6413.His saying "ukliffu" is with a fatha on the lam. Ibn Athir said, it is said "kuliftu bihaza al-amr aklafu" when one becomes devoted to something and loves it. It follows the pattern of "ta'aba," as mentioned in al-Misbah and elsewhere.
