Tulayd bin Kilab al-Laythi and I went out until we came to Abdullah bin Amr bin As, who was circumambulating the House with his sandals hanging from his hand. We asked him, "Were you present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the man from Tamim spoke to him on the day of Hunayn?"He replied, "Yes. A man from the tribe of Tamim called Dhul-Khuwaysira came forward and stood before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was distributing goods to the people. He said, 'Muhammad, I have seen what you have done today.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed. And how did you find it?'The man said, 'I did not see you act justly.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and said, 'Woe to you! If justice is not to be found with me, then with whom is it to be found?'Umar bin Khattab said, 'Messenger of Allah, shall we not kill him?'He said, 'No, leave him. He will have followers who will go to such extremes in religion that they will pass out of it as an arrow passes through its prey. One looks at the arrowhead and finds nothing on it, then at the shaft and finds nothing, then at the notch and finds nothing. The arrow has passed clean through the dung and the blood.'"Abu Abdul-Rahman said, Abu Ubayda's name is Muhammad, and he is reliable. His brother Salama bin Muhammad bin Ammar, none narrated from him except Ali bin Zayd, and we know nothing of his condition. Miqsam is acceptable. This hadith has chains conveying this meaning, and other chains conveying this meaning that are sound. And Allah knows best.

This has already appeared, at length and in abridged form, at 6663, 6719, and 6743, all through the route of Muhammad bin Rashid from Sulayman bin Musa. Bayhaqi likewise narrated it, at 74, through that same route. As for his statement "and ten bakarah," etc, bakarah, with a kasrah on the ba and a light kaf, is the plural of bakr, with a fathah on the ba and a sakinah on the kaf, meaning a young camel. Jawhari said, the plural of bakr is bakar, like farkh and firakh, and also bakarah, like fahl and fahalah.
