The delegation of Hawazin came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at al-Jiranah, and they had embraced Islam. They said, "Messenger of Allah, we are a tribe with kin and clan, and we have been struck with hardship that is not hidden from you, so show us favor, may Allah show favor to you."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Which is dearer to you, your children and women, or your wealth?"They replied, "Messenger of Allah, you have given us a choice between our honor and our wealth. Rather, return to us our women and children, for that is dearer to us."He said to them, "As for whatever belongs to me and to the sons of Abdul-Muttalib, it is yours. When I have led the people in the noon prayer, stand up and say, 'We seek the intercession of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the Muslims, and the intercession of the Muslims with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, for our children and our women.' Then I will give you my share at that point and ask others on your behalf."When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had led the people in the noon prayer, they stood up and spoke as he had instructed them.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for whatever belongs to me and to the sons of Abdul-Muttalib, it is yours."The Muhajirun said, "And whatever belongs to us is for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The Ansar said, "And whatever belongs to us is for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Aqra bin Habis said, "As for me and the sons of Tamim, no."Uyayna bin Hisn bin Hudhayfa bin Badr said, "As for me and the sons of Fazarah, no."Abbas bin Mirdas said, "As for me and the sons of Sulaym, no."The sons of Sulaym said, "No, whatever belongs to us is for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Abbas said, "Sons of Sulaym, you have let me down."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever among you holds on to his right from these captives, he shall have for every person six camels from the very first spoils we acquire."So they returned to the people their children and their women.
حدثنا يعقوب حدثنا أبي عن محمد بن إسحاق قال وحدثني
أن وفد هوازن أتوا رسول الله ﷺ وهو بالجعرانة وقد أسلموا فقالوا يا رسول الله إنا أصل وعشيرة وقد أصابنا من البلاء ما لا يخفى عليك فامنن علينا من الله عليك فقال رسول الله ﷺ أبناؤكم ونساؤكم أحب إليكم أم أموالكم قالوا يا رسول الله خيرتنا بين أحسابنا وبين أموالنا بل ترد علينا نساؤنا وأبناؤنا فهو أحب إلينا فقال لهم أما ما كان لي ولبني عبد المطلب فهو لكم فإذا صليت للناس الظهر فقوموا فقولوا إنا نستشفع برسول الله ﷺ إلى المسلمين وبالمسلمين إلى رسول الله ﷺ في أبنائنا ونسائنا فسأعطيكم عند ذلك وأسأل لكم فلما صلى رسول الله ﷺ بالناس الظهر قاموا فتكلموا بالذي أمرهم به فقال رسول الله ﷺ أما ما كان لي ولبني عبد المطلب فهو لكم قال المهاجرون وما كان لنا فهو لرسول الله ﷺ وقالت الأنصار وما كان لنا فهو لرسول الله ﷺ قال الأقرع بن حابس أما أنا وبنو تميم فلا وقال عيينة بن حصن بن حذيفة بن بدر أما أنا وبنو فزارة فلا قال عباس بن مرداس أما أنا وبنو سليم فلا قالت بنو سليم لا ما كان لنا فهو لرسول الله ﷺ قال يقول عباس يا بني سليم وهنتموني فقال رسول الله ﷺ أما من تمسك منكم بحقه من هذا السبي فله بكل إنسان ست فرائض من أول شيء نصيبه فردوا على الناس أبناءهم ونساءهم
