This ruling has no precedent in what has gone before. It will also come up again within hadith 7090, through the transmission of Muhammad bin Rashid from Sulayman bin Musa from Amr bin Shuayb from his father from his grandfather. Abu Dawud narrated it as part of a lengthy hadith 313/4/4564–314 Awn al-Mabud, and Bayhaqi narrated it in Sunan al-Kubra 8:77 as part of a hadith, both of them through the route of Muhammad bin Rashid from Sulayman bin Musa.His statement, "he appraises it for the people of the villages," means he assesses its value. This usage is rare, and we have discussed it in detail in another similar hadith of Abdullah bin Umar bin Khattab, 5545.His statement, "and if it becomes cheap," means its price becomes low. In Lisan 17:330, from Kisai, he said, a man from the Arabs said about his camel, "There is nothing wrong with it except its cheapness," meaning it is low in price.His statement, "or its equivalent," the word "idl," whether pronounced with a fatha or a kasra on the ain, means the equal or the like.
