A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have come to pledge allegiance to you, and I left my parents weeping."He replied, "Go back to them and make them laugh just as you made them weep," and he refused to accept his pledge.
حدثنا إسماعيل بن إبراهيم حدثنا عطاء بن السائب عن أبيه
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ فقال جئت لأبايعك وتركت أبوي يبكيان قال فارجع إليهما فأضحكهما كما أبكيتهما وأبى أن يبايعه
Its isnad is hasan, then it becomes sahih li-ghayrihi, because Ismail bin Ibrahim, who is Ibn Ulaya, heard from Ataa after he had changed. The hadith is given at length at 6490, from the narration of Ibn Uyayna from Ataa, and we noted there the narration of Nasai through Hammad bin Zayd from Ataa, and both of them heard from him early on. 15
