Its isnad is sahih, and this is an abridged version. Muslim related it at length (2:288-289) through the route of Ibn Wahb, from Abu Hani, with this same isnad. His statement at the end, "Abdullah said, 'If you wish, we will give you from what we have,'" and so on, refers to the story at the beginning of the hadith as found in Muslim.Abu Abdul-Rahman Hubli said, I heard Abdullah bin Amr bin As, when a man asked him, saying, "Are we not among the poor emigrants?" Abdullah said to him, "Do you have a wife you go home to?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Do you have a dwelling you live in?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Then you are among the wealthy." The man said, "But I have a servant." He said, "Then you are among the kings!"Abu Abdul-Rahman (that is, Hubli) said, Three men came to Abdullah bin Amr bin As while I was with him, and they said, "Abu Muhammad, by Allah, we have nothing, no provisions, no mount, and no goods." He said to them, "Whatever you wish. If you wish, you may come back to us and we will give you whatever Allah makes easy for us to give you. If you wish, we will mention your situation to the ruler. And if you wish, you may bear it patiently, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say," and then he related the hadith. They said, "We will bear it patiently, we will not ask for anything."I have not found this complete wording in the Musnad, so it should be drawn from Sahih Muslim. See 6570, 6571.
