It is reported that the Prophet ﷺ instructed Fatimah and Ali, when they retired to their beds, to glorify Allah, praise Him, and proclaim His greatness. Ata was uncertain which of these phrases was to be repeated thirty-four times to complete one hundred. The narrator said that Abdullah bin Amr remarked, "I have never abandoned them since."Ibn al-Kawwa asked him, "Not even on the night of Siffin?"Ali replied, "Not even on the night of Siffin."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid 10:122, except that he omitted its end, from Ali's speech and Ibn Kawwa's question, then said, Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy, because Shubah heard from Ata bin Saaib before he became confused. Something similar in meaning has already passed, in another lengthier wording, from the narration of Ata bin Saaib from his father from Abdullah bin Amr as well, 6498. Its meaning has also already passed in detailed, lengthy form, from the narration of Ata bin Saaib from his father from Ali bin Abu Talib, 838. Its meaning has also already passed in similar form from other routes from Ali, 1141, 1144, 1228, 1249. His saying, "which is thirty-four," appears in H and Majma al-Zawaid as "which is they," which is an error, we corrected it from K and M. And his saying, "completing the hundred," appears in M as "a hundred," and we established what is in the rest of the sources and in Majma al-Zawaid. See also 6910.
