The Prophet ﷺ said, "If they drink wine, flog them. Then if they drink it again, flog them. Then if they drink it again, flog them. Then if they drink it a fourth time, kill them."
حدثنا معاذ بن هشام حدثني أبي عن قتادة وعبد الصمد قال حدثنا همام حدثنا قتادة عن شهر بن حوشب
أن النبي ﷺ قال الخمر إذا شربوها فاجلدوهم ثم إذا شربوها فاجلدوهم ثم إذا شربوها فاجلدوهم ثم إذا شربوها فاقتلوهم عند الرابعة
Its isnad is sahih. We have already discussed it in detail in the commentary on the hadith of Abdullah bin Umar bin Khattab with this meaning, no. 6197, and we mentioned there that it would come again repeatedly, including at no. 7003, and that it was narrated by Hakim, Tahawi, and others.In Q, it reads, "Indeed wine, when they drink it," but the word "indeed" is not found in H or K.
