Its isnad is sahih. Yazid bin Abdullah bin Shikhir, Abu Ala Amiri, is a trustworthy tabii. Ibn Saad, Nasai, Ajli, and others confirmed his reliability, and the authors of the six books narrated from him. Bukhari mentioned him in al-Kabir 4/2/345, and in al-Saghir (p. 93), Ibn Saad in al-Tabaqat 7/1/113, and Dhahabi in Tarikh Islam 4:212. Bukhari narrated from him in the two Tarikh works, where he said, "I am older than Hasan by ten years, and Mutarrif is older than me by ten years," meaning his brother Mutarrif bin Abdullah bin Shikhir and Hasan Basri. Shakhir is spelled with the sheen and the kha, both with kasra and shaddah.This hadith is also among the narrations that form part of the longer hadith numbered 6477. Tayalisi narrated it, 2275, in abbreviated form like this, from Hammam with this same isnad. Likewise Abu Dawud narrated it, 1494 (1:528 of Awn al-Mabud), also in abbreviated form, through the narration of Saeed from Qatada. Darimi narrated it, 350, and Tirmidhi, 4:64, and Ibn Majah, 1:210, all three of them through the route of Shuba from Qatada, and Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith." Abu Dawud narrated it, 1390 (1:527 of Awn al-Mabud), in a longer form than this, through the route of Hammam from Qatada, and the longer version through the route of Hammam will come later, 6546 and 6775.
