Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Jiranah, "I had vowed in the days of ignorance to perform itikaf in the Sacred Mosque."Abdul-Samad added, "And he had with him a young slave boy from the captives of Hawazin."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Go and perform your itikaf."So Umar went and began his itikaf. While he was praying, he heard the people saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has freed the captives of Hawazin." So he called the boy and set him free.
حدثنا عبد الصمد وعفان قالا حدثنا حماد بن سلمة أخبرنا أيوب عن نافع
أن عمر رضي الله تعالى عنه سأل رسول الله ﷺ بالجعرانة فقال إني كنت نذرت في الجاهلية أن أعتكف في المسجد الحرام قال عبد الصمد ومعه غلام من سبي هوازن فقال له اذهب فاعتكف فذهب فاعتكف فبينما هو يصلي إذ سمع الناس يقولون أعتق رسول الله ﷺ سبي هوازن فدعا الغلام فأعتقه
